Last week during one of the parliamentary sittings, outgoing Kawempe North mp Latif Ssebagala tasked the speaker to address the issue of curfew time, siting the Fasting for muslims that was just days away. In his submission, Latif said muslims have Taraweh prayers that go till 10pm during ramadan and this is already past curfew time.
The speaker responded by calling out the prime minister, Ruhakana Rugunda to come and explain the situation to the parliament. The prime minister came out and this is what he had to say, "We are going to look into the curfew issue but at the moment, the curfew still stands and it's only there to protect Ugandans against the rampant covid-19 and we're not about to reduce the guidelines anytime soon."
This left members puzzled, especially Latif who retaliated by saying the curfew time is becoming a business joint for police officers. "Curfew has become a money making business for police operators. When one is caught past 9pm, they take you to a nearby police station and you're asked for 50k and above to be let go."
We pose a question to you our readers, does curfew still make sense according to you?
