Former Uganda Cranes, football captain, Dennis Onyango has turned into a boda boda rider to make ends meet.
The 36 year old Ugandan goalkeeper, said yesterday that he is ready to deliver groceries to any household within Kampala and Wakiso and that people should not hesitate to get in touch with him.
This comes after Museveni, the president of Uganda declared a tight lockdown on the country hence restricting movement of people. So it means the like of Onyango who will be transporting goods to various destinations are the most useful people at the moment.
What Happened to Dennis Onyango and his football
Before you get your hopes high about his new Boda Boda thing, the man is still a footballer at South African Premier Soccer League club Mamelodi Sundowns where he is a goalkeeper.
He only recently retired from the Ugandan National Football team, "The Uganda Cranes" for reasons best known to himself in April of this year.
His retirement came at a time when rumours about misuse of funds at Uganda's Football governing body, "FUFA" were all over the news. FUFA's president by then , Moses Magogo who was re-elected of recent is believed to have been at the centre of the funds misuse.
Many other players aside from Onyango also decided to either resign or retire after citing the problems at Fufa for example Hassan Wasswa who resigned weeks before Onyango.
An audio just before Onyango's retirement had also circulated with him speaking to another senior player of the Uganda Cranes and Onyango later told media, that it was his voice indeed, in that audio and he doesn't regret what he said.
The talk in the audio was majorly about how players of the national football team were not receiving their remuneration despite their contribution to Uganda's national football team.
What really made Onyango to Retire
Speaking on NTV's press box program, the football star said he was retiring to let the younger players behind him get an opportunity of playing for their country because he believes what he has done for Uganda was enough in his 13-year international football career.
Even before the Malawi game which was the final game of Africa Cup of Nations'(AFCON) qualifiers, Onyango said he had already made up his mind on retirement but wanted the boys to first qualify for AFCON by not shaking their team spirit with a sudden announcement.
