Five countries set to join BRICS in 2024.
    • January 2, 2024 • 1 year ago

    * Five out of the six invited countries set to join the BRICS.

    * Argentina remains the only country to turn down the invitation due to changeof regime.

    * The expansion of the bloc is directed  towards reshaping global order.

South  Africa's ambassador to the BRICS bloc Anil Sookal disclosed that five countries notably Saudi Arabia, lran, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Egypt will join the BRICS group of emerging market states on the new years day. With the goal of challenging the U. S led global order, the BRICS group comprising of Brazil, Russia India, China and South Africa has asked 6 other nations to join their alliance. The 2009 Russian created alliance has gained global momentum as it now represents 42% of the world's population, 30% of global geography and 24% of global production. Out of the six countries, five accepted the BRICS invitation by attending a BRICS sherpa earlier last month in Durban South Africa.

The BRICS summit will be held on the 30th this month with the 5 invitees all willing  tk send representatives there. Argentina was the only country that denied the invitation due to change of power after President Javier Milei overturned the request of his predecessor and his quest to join the club.  Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said over 30 countries had expressed their need to be part  of union. Nigeria, Africa's  most populated country and second  largest African economy hopes to join the BRICS within the next two years according to Foreign minister Yusuf Thaggor which will push the bloc's major total to a stunning 12 and therefore have 3 of the most populated countries in the world.

Despite Nigeria's bid to join the block, the Vice President Kashom Shettima who attended the group's meeting in South Africa failed to demonstrate any concrete interest in becoming a member of the organisation. South Africa foreign minister Naleeli Pandor said that the expansion of allinace is driven by the desires for alternative arrangement to the alternative global power balance.  The expansion of the BRICS causes big concern and global worry towards the NATO military alliance as the bloc aims at destroying all forms of global controversial control manifested in the United States through creation of the BRICS currency which will reduce the amount of U.S dollars that will be used to carry our trade in over 42% of the 8 billion global population.
