For a longtime time now, there are various schools in the country that have made it a habit to teach learners during holidays - in a setting called "Term X".
This However, according to Ministry of Education and Sports is illegal and ahead of the first term holidays of this academic year 2023, enforcement to curb the vice is set to be put in place.
The Ministry further warned schools against conducting coaching in holidays. Speaking to media on Wednesday, the Ministry spokesperson Mr. Dennis Mugimba asked schools to let parents mobilise resources for a new term in addition to letting learners rest.
"The Ministryof Education and Sports school calendar does not include anything caller Term X. There is a reason school holidays are scheduled" he said!
Mugimba's call to action followed a holiday notice seen at a school in Entebbe that informed parents and Guardians of Senior 3, 4, 5 and Six students to prepare for a three weeks holiday term X coaching conducted at shs. 200,000 per student!
Schools that will risk bleaching the Ministry directive, Mr Mugimba says they will risk closure!
