lsrael war on Hamas will last for months, lsrael's military chief said on Tuesday while the United Nations voiced alarm over the escalation of Israel attacks that killed more than 100 Palestinians over the last two days in the Gaza strip. lsrael actions intensified starting around Christmas particularly in the central area just south of the seasonal waterway that bisects the Gaza strip. The Israel army told civilians to vacate the area though many said there was no safe place left to go.
On a similar note, the U.N said that the outgoing Dutch Finance minister will be the coordinator of the humanitarian relief shipments into Gaza as part of a resolution that the U.N council meeting adopted. Israel continues to press that it is determined to wipeout Hamas despite global calls for a ceasefire as the conflict heads for a 12th week and many are concerned that the conflict could spread with the U.S and lran- aligned forces attacking each other else where in the region.
Since the Hamas killed 1200 people and captured 240 hostages on Oct 7th last year in the deadliest day attack on lsrael in history, Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded with an asssult that has laid much of the Hamas controlled Gaza strip to waste. Palestine health authorities continue to worry as the death toll has now risen to 21,800 people who have been killed in Isarel strikes with more feared to be buried under rubble.
Nearly all the enclaves 2.3m people have been driven from their homes and many of them several times but lsrael has kept claiming that it is doing whatever it takes to protect the civilians and blames Hamas for puttting them in harms way by operating under them. The United States president said Israel should scale down on killing civilians with what the U.S has called indiscriminate bombing.
Tension continues to surge with regional volatility. Yemen based and lran backed Houthis militia said it had fired a drone towards Eilat, southern lsrael but lsrael military said one of its fighter jets had intercepted it in what it referred to as a hostile aerial target. The Houthis have been attacking ships on the Red Sea with links to Israel one of the world's busiest shipping areas.
Similarly U.S forces meanwhile have come under attack by Iran backed militants in lraq and Syria over Washington's backing of Israel. The Gaza strip conflict rages on with lsrael facing attack on seven different fronts and only have been able to cater for six fronts without exactly specifying which front has not been catered for.
