Geoffrey Lutaaya Not Sure of What To Do for Fellow Musicians

Geoffrey Lutaaya Not Sure of What To Do for Fellow Musicians

Popular Ugandan musician and Mamber of Parliament, Geoffrey Lutaaya, has come out to reveal how he has close to zero plans for the rest of the musicians in Uganda.

After securing himself a parliamentary seat this year January, he is not sure of how he can use his position to help musicians saying he has other priorities to work on at the moment.

He said he is going to first help the people of Kakuuto County who gave him votes that propelled him to the 11th parliament where he now seats with 529 other MPs who won their elections too.

As early as June, Lutaaya had already bought a second ambulance for the people of Kakuuto as soon as the 200 million shillings MPs received, reached his bank account. He says the vehicle is first hand and can be driven on the bad roads in Kakuuto without any problem.

When did Lutaaya buy the first ambulance

Geoffrey Lutaaya just like other members of parliament, bought the first ambulance for his consistency back in January when he had just joined the parliament in a bid to help boost the health sector there.

He said, he has personally seen people die in transit to give birth and also acknowledged how far the health centres are from the people deep down in his consistency.

So why is Lutaaya confused about his fellow "Bayimbi" (musicians)

When active musicians like Dr Hilderman and Geoffrey Lutaaya first let the public know about their pending parliamentary bids last year, a lot of people were happy most especially their fellow musicians.

These musicians became so happy because their colleagues were going into serious offices hence painting their image good since musicians were considered to be a joke in society just over a decade ago.

On top of feeling proud, the fellow musicians expected a lot from their counterparts who make it to parliament.

what goes wrong along the way..

However, after winning the election, their predecessors have shown us how musicians can be very ineffective when it comes to fighting for rights of the music industry in Uganda.

A case in point is honourable Judith Babirye who entered parliament in 2016 but was as visible as a ghost during the 5 years of her term to the extent that we NEVER, at any one point saw her debate in the tenth parliament.

So this is the very reason Geoffrey Lutaaya is distancing himself from helping fellow artists such that incase he also becomes a ghost, people will not point fingers at him.

Lutaaya also stressed that during these times of Corona, musicians are his least priority but he promised to help them out through policy formulation if he ever gets a chance to debate on the floor of the house (which is also rare)

Thank God, a lucky Lutaaya has already made his maiden speech a few months after being sworn in
