After Ugandans of different social standings and from all walks of life made noise about President Yoweri Museveni’s six billion handshake to the extent of the speaker of parliament bringing the house to halt and rubbishing Justice Kavuuma let alone nasty comments thrown at the president by people with almost no qualification, President Yoweri Museveni finally reacted and came out to speak about and defend his action.
The president has revealed to the NRM caucus that giving a gift to a group of lawyers after winning the oil case against Heritage oil company was deliberate and he is proud of the group who according him hence deserving their award.
“I reject that I did anything wrong and I am very proud of these young people.” In my opinion, as every one points fingers, allow me credit the president. I mean it is very clearly stated that the president has a prerogative to reward exemplary performance and we’ve all seen countries where the president is the state and the reverse is true. But here is His Excellency Yoweri Museveni coming out to explain to the people.
My quest here is… does the parliament have any moral authority over this?
Well he trod farther on to explain to the caucus that the case was no ordinary case. It was an international war which the lawyers and the tax ladies (Allen Kagina and Doris Akol) won amidst pressure, challenges and temptations. The president in all his excellency went a notch higher to explain and give an accountability for the money as he explained that after tax deductions the amount came to 3.6 billion of which fifteen percent was used to pay for the starting of the Karuma and Isimba dam projects.
He also noted that the only loophole Was The misrepresentation and how the list came to forty two people…which I believe is answerable by the Attorney General who duly issued an audit warrant to authorise the spending and happens to be among the forty two to share in the fifty million shillings each according to the president.
So to my fellow Ugandans…when u deplore the condition of the world ask yourself if you are part of the problem or solution. It doesn’t exactly make sense to go about shouting at people representing the country internationally and pointing fingers at the wrong people when you can’t solve issues at family level. That brings me back to let us not major in the minors. Let’s stop exposing ignorance and stinginess in the name of freedom of speech and expression!!!!!!
