In an article we published a few hours back about the proposed Pay as you Withdraw tax on money saved in banks, Ugandans have since come out to complain about the ever piling taxes imposed on Ugandans.
However, the minister for finance, Honorable Maria Kasaija has come out to denounce the rumors, stating he knows NOTHING about the tax.
"Tax on withdrawal of money? I am hearing this for the very first time. Yesterday we were talking about tax measures and I have not seen that among tax measures." Said minister Kasaija in an interview.
The 'rumored' proposed tax will be the second, after the passing of Over The Top tax(OTT) in 2018 and also a 0.5% exercise duty on mobile money.
It should be noted that even in 2018, the OTT law started as a rumour and by the time it was publicly passed and enacted on 1st/July, it had already been passed. Best to say that "there's no smoke without fire."
