After the parliament directed the government to halt the move to distribute relief food throughout the country to people affected by the sudden lock down, numerous doubts have stomped in claiming that the relief food program may be of enormous burden to the government which eventually will break its back.

Earlier President Museveni corrected the nation that this was an emergency and shouldn’t be confused with poverty eradication. The president insisted that the program was to focus on people in greater Kampala regions because those outside the greater Kampala areas are engaged in farming, rearing and not very much affected by the lockdown.
Basing on statistics of world population, Uganda has an estimated population of 45.74 million people and 3.62% (1.35 million people) of its population dwells in the greater areas of Kampala. Which relatively isn’t a large number for government to handle especially that it decided to only cater for those in the greater Kampala regions.
Secondly according to prime minister Dr Ruhakana, each person will be given 6kg of maize flour, 3kg of beans, whereas lactating mothers and the sick will be given powdered milk and 2kg of sugar each. Which supplies don’t seem to be of great burden since they issued out every after a month.
Specifically the program is aimed at ensuring that the vulnerable including the elderly, pregnant mothers, the sick and all those people who live hand to mouth arent affected by the lockdown however there are a lot of loopholes that redundantly remain unanswered.
Will the provided food relief be enough for those with huge families for a month?
Is Powdered milk the only essential needed by lactating mothers or it goes beyond? Still leaving more and more room for skepticism.
According to exclusive reports received by Nowviba insinuate that the exercise has kicked off in the slum areas of Bwaise in Kampala and intended to reach out for almost 1.5 million people. The distribution follows a mode of door to door engulfing the orphanages and hospitals as well.
