It is a well known fact that Uganda is meant to host the MAMA awards 2021and these are Africa's biggest award shows.
These awards were meant to attract big stars like DJ Khaled, Burna Boy, Davido, AKA, Olakira, Yemi Alade among others.
However, with the political events that have been happening in the country combined with the police brutality against Ugandans, this event might be one to flop.
DJ Khaled had first confirmed he would arrive to Uganda to host the show but many social media users tweeted at him showing all the horrible things happening in Uganda with images as proof and this made him delete his tweet.
Nigerian artists had already promised to boy cott the event after the arrest of Omah Lay and Tems.
Questions remains whether any of the big stars will be seen in Kampala?
Even with the images of police killing people and the arrest of big political figure and artist Robert Kyangulanyi alias Bobi Wine, some artists such as Yemi Alade have confirmed they will not attend the event.
The Uganda Tourism Board had spent over millions of money trying to advertise this event.
Furthermore, over $3 million dollars were spent to have Kampala, the Pearl of Africa host the event.
Over $20 million dollars was expected to be earned through this event as beneficiaries would have been service providers, hotels, events management teams, transport providers among others.
However, with this type of image being portrayed on the international scene, will this event be a profit or a loss?
Images and videos of the Uganda police bartering and killing people are what is making rounds and scaring off all these artists.
This would have been the first time Uganda would host this event.
