AS Roma have declared that Jose Mourinho and his colleagues have left the club
Mourinho took charge of Roma ahead of the 2021/22 season and led them to Europa Conference League glory during his first campaign, while they finished as runners-up to Sevilla in the Europa League last term, losing the final on penalties.
But after a dismal first half to the 2023/24 season, Roma have decided to part ways with Mourinho, confirming his sacking in a statement on Tuesday morning.The statement read:
"AS Roma announces that Jose Mourinho and his technical collaborators will leave the Club with immediate effect."Mourinho was announced as the sixtieth manager in Roma's history in May 2021."He led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on 25 May 2022 and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season."
Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin added:
"We thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for the passion and commitment he has shown since his arrival in the Giallorossi."We will always have great memories of his stewardship, but we believe that, in the best interests of the Club, immediate change is necessary."We wish Jose and his collaborators the best for the future."
