There is this famous phenomenon going around amongst musicians. It is the trend of musicians going around with an entourage which is nowadays referred to as Egaali.
These are clicks or groups of people that escort a musician where they are meant to appear for a performance. Examples of people with entourages include Fik Gaza and Alien Skin. They are the two musicians that always move with a whole ganga as they set off anywhere for a performance.
Well, many people have always come out to say that these entourages are more undesirable than supportive because some of them display violence while at certain concert venues and in most times they keep fighting against each other. We all know how many times the entourages of Fik Gaza have fought with those of Alien Skin because of the existing beef between the two musicians right?
The same scenario happened when there was an existing beef between Pallaso and Alien Skin at the time when they thumped each other. People argue that these so called “egaali" are condoning violence instead of curbing it so they are deemed unfavorable .
In Lydia Jazmine's perspective, they are not as good as people make them out to be. She stated that musicians stage concerts to earn money which is why fellow musicians come to sing for their colleagues free of charge but yet there are some people that carry an entourage of 20 people, they enter an event for free, push people that have paid for the event and in the end, they just cause commotion, something that is so uncouth .
“When we organize concerts, we want to earn money from them. But if someone shows up with their Gaali of 20 people, they cause chaos, they push people that have paid for the concert and yet for them, they have not paid even a single dime to be at the concert. This is where the problem comes in. It’s so uncool.” She stated.
According to Winnie Nwagi however, one can organize their entourage and make sure they are disciplined and do not cause trouble and maybe there could be very many positive things that can come out of it.
“But if one can organize their gaali and it just happens that the people are respectful and don’t cause commotion, that could be a very good thing. I think we could see positive results because honestly, some of them are rude, they even push artistes out of their way. It’s so disrespectful.” Nwagi stated.
