Manchester United will need to strengthen their defense after the number of goals they conceded last season.
Manchester United conceded 85 goals in all competitions last season. They also let in three or more goals on 15 different occasions throughout the campaign.
Raphael Varane already announced his departure while Jonny Evans' contract may not be extended with his current one ending in June. Also Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have both been linked with moves away from the club. This leaves Manchester United with the task of looking for a right sided centre back to play with Lisandro Martinez.
Manchester United will also need reinforcements in the right back position. Diogo Dalot cemented his place as the starter in this position but Aaron Wan Bissaka could leave after an injury plagued season where he failed to show any progress with his on-the-ball skills.
Jules Kounde would be the best signing for Manchester United since he can play in both the centre back and right back positions. It is reported that he is open to leaving Barcelona this summer.
Jules Kounde has excellent technical skills and agility which enable him to excel in both positions. Barcelona are currently in need of funds and are willing to sell Jules Kounde if the right fee of around €50 million is offered.
Kounde made 48 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona last season. He kept 19 clean sheets, scored two goals and provided two assists. Jules Kounde would be the most decent option for Manchester United.
Manchester United are also interested in Chelsea defender Trevor Chalobah
Chelsea are willing to sell Chalobah and Connor Gallagher in order to meet the profit and sustainability rules by 30th June.
Manchester United are set to follow the approach of high performing clubs and mostly sign players who are under the age of 25, following the success of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool for the past few seasons.
The signing of Varane, Casemiro and Antony hasn't yielded the return on investment they expected.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe stated that Manchester United will not make moves for big money stars but instead look to bring in players with high potential and a strong resale value.
He said the following;
I'd rather find the next Mbappe than spend a fortune trying to buy success. It's not that clever, is it, buying Mbappe, in a way? Anyone could figure that one out. Much more challenging is to find the next Mbappe or Jude Bellingham or the next Roy Keane. We all talk on a daily basis, there's a group of us involved in Manchester United but the two people most focused on it would be Dave and myself. We've now got Omar Berrada, of course, who's on gardening leave at the moment but he's become a big part of a trio when he settles in. He's come from Man City and will be the chief executive.
