State Minister for Primary Education Dr Joyce Moriku Kaducu yesterday advised teachers to get vaccinated if they want to resume work next year as schools re-open. The minister was in Mbale at the launch of the national schools-based training for teachers in preparation for reopening of schools.
She went on to say that time management should be paramount to teachers because constant inspections will be carried out to know those who are at the schools and those who are not. "Learners who are above 18 years should also be vaccinated. The headteachers should be role models with valid fully vaccination cards not those made from Nasser road.
They say teachers have gone to do business. We need to know those who're there and who's not. We will give specific time for reporting and if you're not there within that period, that will be the end unless you have a valid reason." said the minister.
This came in at a time when teachers were told point blank that they either get the jab and prepare to go back to teaching or they forego and look for other jobs. Will teachers comply to the directive and return to a "very under-paying job?" or they have alresdy found their feet elsewhere?
