Minister of Internl Affairs Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire while addressing the press earlier today attributed the Masaka murders to political power shift in the region.
Minister vehemently stated that Masaka people voted out the NRM government from their region and according to him, this is the reason why the massacres have increased in the region.
"Ugandans have forgotten that while National Resistance Movement was still the stronghold party in greater Masaka, there were no killings. These have come in after the people massively voted the opposition in the region." Said Maj. Gen. Otafiire.
It should be noted that in the January 14th national elections elections, the ruling party (NRM) had arguably one of its worst defeats in the central region to National Unity Platform (NUP) from MPs to Local council level.
This caused a lot of turmoill where many of the NRM members both those who lost and those who narrowly won accused the central region of exercising sectarianism and tribalism while voting.
Whether this was true or false, the election went on. Now, is the minister really certain the killings are because of the political shift or he's trying to get 'relevance?'
