Tensions flared between Kampala Central Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko and the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Bobi Wine, as the two political figures engaged in a heated exchange over fundraising and alleged hypocrisy.
Nsereko launched a scathing critique of Bobi Wine, accusing him of mendacity and stating his intention to expose the opposition leader's alleged duplicity. The remarks came in response to Bobi Wine's recent interview where he criticized Nsereko for assuming the role of soliciting funds for the ailing Kawempe South MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, who is currently seeking medical treatment in Holland.
In a sharp retort, Nsereko characterized Bobi Wine as a liar and hypocrite, hinting at his intention to unveil the purported truth behind the opposition leader's actions. The exchange has highlighted growing tensions within the political landscape.
The crux of the dispute revolves around Nsereko's alleged involvement in fundraising efforts for the unwell MP, Ssegirinya. Bobi Wine took exception to Nsereko's actions, suggesting they were disingenuous. Nsereko, however, responded by highlighting what he perceived as Bobi Wine's own inconsistencies.
"He (Bobi) went to the USA for treatment claiming his testicles had been crushed, he was putting on a heavy boot and said his legs were broken, there is no person with such an issue who would put on heavy boots," Nsereko retorted.
Challenging Bobi Wine's claims about Ssegirinya not seeking appropriate permissions for his medical absence, Nsereko demanded evidence.
"Let him show us a copy of the letter he issued to the Leader of the Opposition at that time or to the medical board at parliament," Nsereko challenged.
The exchange escalated as Nsereko questioned Bobi Wine's veracity on several fronts, referencing past predictions that the opposition leader had made about President Museveni.
"He said Museveni would leave in one month, it is now three years. He said Museveni would be arrested when he goes abroad, he (Museveni) has travelled everywhere and returned untouched, who then is the liar?" Nsereko pointedly questioned.
Regarding the fundraising efforts, Nsereko affirmed his independence from Bobi Wine's involvement and insinuated that volunteers were contributing willingly.
"I will help or will use my platforms to look for help and I have not asked money from poor Ugandans, people have volunteered and I think that is where Bobi Wine’s envy comes from," Nsereko asserted.
The heated exchange underscores the deep-seated political divisions within Uganda's landscape, with both figures utilizing strong language to present their perspectives. The public continues to watch closely as these tensions unfold against the backdrop of broader political dynamics.
