President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has finally lifted the curfew on bodaboda’s that he had earlier maintained when he fully re-opened the economy.
Museveni made the announcement on Sunday afternoon at the Tarehe Sita celebrations in Mbale. “Boda Bodas are saying when will this man open us? I, therefore, announce that effective tomorrow, you go and work.” Museveni said. “I know some of them are thieves, others are murderers, but we will use another measure -digital monitors not restrictions” he added.
Museveni opened the entire economy during his 2021 end of year speech but maintained that Boda’s should not operate beyond 7pm. On January 24th is when the biggest part of the economy was fully re-opened and the entire curfew scrapped off apart from the boda’s. Since then, the boda boda riders have been in disagreement and angry with the president and some of them went ahead to violate his directive by operating beyond this time.
