The music industry has been plunged into a World of Bubble gum music, something that has bothered certain creatives for a while now.
For those that do not know Bubble gum music, this is music that is a result of an ongoing trend. It is simply music that will not be around for ages but is for a short period of time. Whereas certain musicians sing about a trending event at that particular time, others sing about a particular word they have heard trending for a while.
This has left many creatives scratching their heads as they state that bubble gum music has in a way destroyed their hard work because at this particular time, music lovers no longer want to listen to timeless songs but rather they prefer to go with the moving trends.
Many artistes have come out to state that Bubble gum music sells more than timeless music currently. One perfect example is musician A Pass. After releasing his 42 track album, many concluded that it had flopped and this is while at the time Lil Pazo dropped his ‘enkudi' hit, it was highly welcomed and many people loved the song.
Lil Pazo came out to state that he had been singing timeless and sensible music but Ugandans never wanted to listen to all that and all they wanted was Enkudi.
Well, musicians have come out to give their opinion on Bubble gum music, with some defending this type of music while others are criticizing it. According to Big Eye star boss, every kind of music is art and as long as people love a song, that is enough. Big Eye believes that trends keep changing daily so musicians should as well, as long as they master the basics for survival.
“It is all music and it is art. As long as the people love it. Trends come and go so you can never determine how long your song will be viral. As long as you remember the basics to help you survive, it is enough.” He said.
According to Kabako, there is no word like Bubble gum music and it is only used by people who do not understand music at all.
“There is no such word as Bubble gum music. People who use it do not know anything about music. This word does not even exist. It is only here in Uganda.” He said
According to Eddy Kenzo even Bubble gum music has it’s own audience because the music industry is too vast and people always choose what they want to hear. Even when he acknowledges that he can not sing Bubble Gum music, he believes it should not be written off.
“The music industry is too vast. It always depends on who reacts to what. I know I can not sing that kind of music but even people that release it have their audience.” He stated
According to Vyroota, it entirely depends on the artiste and their timing. He believes that some artistes come with a particular wave and it is their opportunity to shine. Citing an example of Alien Skin, Vyroota stated that he came with a wave and despite many people trying to pull him down, he succeeded in his wave.
“This depends on an artiste and the wave. I will give you an example of Alien Skin. He came with a wave. Very many people talked but he still triumphed on that wave. This is not all about bubble gum music or the current wave but it just happens to be an artist’s time to shine. The same people that were trashing Alien skin were the same people dancing to his so called Bubble gum music.” He stated
