Nakawa West Member of Parliament and National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi came out yesterday to clarify on why his party turned down the opper to join IPOD.
"If you began a school and spent 11 years when you've not had any learner who passed, why would you want me to bring my child to your schhol?" Said Jole Ssenyonyi.
For those who might not be familiar with what IPOD is, let me bring you up to speed. Inter-party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD) has been active in Uganda for several years, offering parliamentary parties a common forum for discussions, training, and collaboration. It oversees an interparty dialogue process which aims to provide a safe space for every parliamentary party – no matter its size – to participate in dialogue as equals.
Among the party members of IPOD are the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Democratic Party (DP) among others. This inter-party paltform has been heavily criticized by various political analysts, stating that it has not lived to its expectations.
Many actually believe it's a shadow body put up by the ruling party NRM to 'confuse' Ugandans thst there's a democratic environment that allows political dialogue. Was this the reason why Hon. Ssenyonyi said what he said?
