NYEGE NYEGE - DAY 1: Museveni Assures Maximum Security for Festival Amidst Ongoing Anti-Terror Operations
    • November 9, 2023 • 1 year ago

President Yoweri Museveni has assured Ugandans of maximum security at all public functions, including the Nyege Nyege festival, which commenced today, November 9, 2023, in Jinja City. The announcement came as the President congratulated the country's security forces for their recent success in capturing Njovu, a suspected leader of the ADF group responsible for multiple acts of terror.

In a letter addressed to fellow Ugandans and the "Bazzukulu," President Museveni praised the security forces for their relentless pursuit of Njovu and his group. The ADF group, which had wreaked havoc by killing tourists, a Ugandan driver, school children, and orchestrating other violent incidents, faced a significant setback with Njovu's capture. The operation resulted in Njovu's injury and the elimination of three of his associates, a significant blow to the terrorist organization.

President Museveni also commended the security forces for arresting four suspects involved in the killing of Joan Kagezi, the Prosecutor, a case that had been under investigation for some time.

The government's commitment to eradicating the ADF threat remains unwavering, with intensified efforts to eliminate the terrorists. President Museveni expressed gratitude to the Congolese government for allowing Uganda to assist in eliminating these criminals from Eastern Congo. The ADF's misguided belief that the Congo forests provided a safe haven from security forces has been shattered, with the group discovering the forests to be a perilous trap.

Despite their continued efforts to infiltrate Uganda and carry out acts of terror, the President emphasized that Uganda would not withdraw from Congo. Instead, the country is bolstering its presence in the region and strengthening security at its rear.

Within Uganda the security forces are vigilant and have been deployed to safeguard public functions, including events like the controversial Nyege Nyege festival and the Kyabazinga wedding.

President Museveni advised citizens to remain vigilant in their villages, churches, markets, and public transport, as the infiltrators are few, and with collective vigilance, they can be captured. Meanwhile, efforts to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind the terrorism schemes in Congo are intensifying, with a commitment to wiping them out if they do not surrender.

As the Nyege Nyege festival commences in Jinja, the government's assurance of maximum security offers attendees and participants a sense of safety amid ongoing anti-terror operations. The President's letter underscores the commitment to protecting the country from acts of terror while promoting a secure environment for public gatherings and events.
