The long awaited "new" Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium's grand opening seems to draw nearer each day that goes by. According to the latest from business mogul Hamis Kiggundu, who is the main man behind the renovation of the stadium, the stadium is set to be opened for use before the close of the year.
While speaking to the media at a recent event, Kiggundu assured Ugandans that regardless of the challenges him and the team behind the construction, the stadium will very soon be open to the public for use.
"We had so many challenges as we started out this job, as you are all aware, but God is great we have reached this stage. I can assure everyone that the stadium that can seat 20,000 people is almost ready for use.” Kiggundu spoke during the interview.
Ham also confessed that the newly renoveted Nakivubo will have a sitting capacity of 20,000 people, making it one of the biggest stadiums in the land, behind Mandela National Stadium(Nambole) which upon renovation will have a sitting capacity of 45,000 people.
The stadium, alongside Vioers FC stadium St. Mary's Kitende are among the CAF approved stadiums(training facilities) that will be used in 2027 as Uganda will be co-host to the AFCON27 championships with Tanzania and Kenya.
