One of the most silently watched TV stations in Uganda ABS TV after serving a suspension of about one week long has finally come back on air.
The television was closed on 6th September for breaching some of the regulations set by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). The Television was accused of continuing to show offensive programs to their viewers although no specific program was attached to the accusations.
The popular Kalondozi programme is one of the highly suspected shows that sparked off wires at UCC. The show aims at re-uniting lovers that had broken up relationships but the management at ABS tended to add in a lot of spices to the show that were unnecessary.
The other highly suspected show is the one for the Ssenga and Kojja, a show that aims to improve the sexual life of people. This show is usually aired late nights on Sunday and usually has so much vulgar sexual language attached to it.
After a series of meetings between Pastor Iga the proprietor of the TV and UCC officials their suspension was lifted on grounds that they adjust their programming to suit UCC standards and the commission promised to keep a close eye by monitoring the TV's activities.
In late 2015, the Kaloondozi program on ABS, was suspended. This happened after the program aired naked clips of Maggie Kayiga, a gospel singer. The Uganda Communications Commission ED, Godfrey Matabazi at that time said;
We have decided to suspend the program as we investigate allegations of pornographic and invasion of people’s privacy. Failure for the TV to abide, we shall revoke its license and shut it down, period.
It is also confirmed that last year in 2016, the television station was fined shs 25million and they decided not to broadcast any more pornographic content.
