On Monday, 28th/June/2021, the 11th parliament of Uganda was sent to a 14days suspension, as a move to disinfect parliamentary chambers off Covid-19, given many of the members had been reported to have contracted the deadly disease.
Many of the members of parliament have since then been hoping that they would be given money to go sensitize masses in their constituencies about the right ways of preventing Covid-19.
This didn't come out of the blue though. The previous parliament, each member got a whopping sh 20m to go and mass sensitize their people about Covid-19.
This money caused an uproar among legislators and ordinary Ugandans, because initially it had been passed without the awareness of many. A few MPs especially those from the opposition were seen returning the money one by one.
This time round, deputy speaker, Hon. Anite Among has made it clear that no such money will be released. She however urged MPs to continue performing their legislative duties from their respective constituencies.
