Ugandan gospel singer Gabriella Bridget Ntaate alias Gabie Ntaate has been left cursing her gods after staging a concert that was attended by only a handful of revelers.
Dubbed "Cheza For Yesu Concert", the show went down on Friday 17th May 2024 at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.
Gates were open as early as 4pm and fans started lining up anticipating for a night of joy, worship and music.
The event featured Christian musicians, such as Coopy Bly, Zabuli and Damascus, who captivated the audience.
Notable public figures including Frank Gashumba, Mesach Semakula, Halima Namakula, Fabiola graced the event.
Mcees of the day, King Wesley and Lady Bizo did a great job of hosting the event, setting the stage for an engaging evening.
Unlike other shows in Kampala where headliners step on stage by 9pm, this time around Gabie changed the schedule.She stepped on stage by 10pm, ready to thrill her fans.
Shockingly, the concert registered a low turn up with so many empty chairs at VIP section being very visible. The low turnout can be attributed to a number of factors including but not limited to;
Insufficient publicity; though the dates and venue of the event were confirmed some months back, little effort was done to let the public know about it. A few radio and Tv stations were hired to announce and remind the revelers about the concert.
In the same vein, Gabie Ntaate and her team did a few media tours to spread out the information about the concert. Thus, the insufficient publicity partly contributed to concert's failure as a few people were aware of it.
Insufficient support from churches and religious leaders; For the past few years, international gossip artists such as Sinach have been staging successful shows in Kampala but mainly with the help of Churches and Religious leaders in the country. For Gabie Ntaate's case a few stood with her at a time she needed them most.
Small music catalogue. Though she has had hit songs like Brag about God, Cheza for yesu, one would argue that her music playlist is still small to attract numbers that can fill up Sheraton. Thus, the singer may have rushed to stage a concert while still a newcomer to the industry.
Some music analysts have pointed to the targeted demographic as they rarely attend concerts. Others think the pricing was also too high.
Nevertheless,the low turnout did not deter Gabie Ntaate and other featured gospel musicians from taking the stage to take revelers in a worship moment.
Gabie Ntaate performed a mix of her old and new songs, and her fashion choices left a lasting impression among revelers.
As she was closing off the event, Ntaate mentioned that this wasn't a concert but rather a prayer.
