Opposition Members of Parliament yesterday sat in a meeting to finalize on which members to front for the Speaker and deputy speaker elections happening today. While speculations were pointing at Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende, the cocus had other plans.
By the end of the meeting, Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Asuman Basalirwa was chosen to represent the opposition in the Speaker poll. The JEMA party member will now go head on with National Resistance Movement(NRM) member Anita Among later today.
In the same meeting, Kioga Member of Parliament, Hon. Okot P'Btek Moses was appointed to represent the opposition on the Deputy Speaker post, and will compete with National Resistance Movement(NRM) member, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for the same post.
With the current tribal turmoil going on in the political sphere, where a certain sect wants to have the speaker position for themselves, we seem to be in for a bumpy political ride one more time.
