Having snt a whooping Ugshs 200m to each member of parliament's account, parliament has gone on to procure iPads for the 529 MPs plus 26 exco ministers. According to the deputy speaker, Hon. Anite Among, these gadgets are aimed at neasing the parliamentary sessions both physically and virtualy.
While meeting the leader of oppositon Hon. Mathias Mpuuga on Thursday, Hon. Anite said the distribution of the tablets would commence on Monday 2nd/August/2021. Hon. Mpuuga advised the MPs to respect and utilize these gadgets well and also be decent enough to avoid scandalous images.
It is estimated that each iPad cost around Ugshs 3m, multiplying that with 529 MPs, that's over 1.5bn Ugshs. The idea of MPs owning such gadgets was passed by the 9th parliament and it was mandated that by end of each term, these gadgets be returned. How many were returned? That's a story for another day.
