Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah, delivered an urgent call to action for educational reform, emphasizing the need for a curriculum that fosters patriotism, inclusivity, and 21st-century skills.
Nabbanja Robinah, delivered a keynote address to over 170 secondary school teachers responsible for promoting patriotism. These educators are currently undergoing an intensive course at the Olive Tambo School of Leadership and Pan African Centre of Excellence in Kaweweta, aimed at empowering them to instill a sense of national pride and civic duty in their students.
Highlighting the critical role of educators in shaping future leaders, Nabbanja underscored the importance of promoting patriotism within schools.
"Your influence extends beyond the walls of your institutions, impacting communities and shaping the leaders of tomorrow,"
she emphasized, urging teachers to recognize their pivotal role in nation-building.
Nabbanja's speech was not only a call to action but also a vision for a reformed educational system that aligns with the needs of a rapidly evolving world.
She called for a comprehensive evolution of Uganda's education system to meet the demands of the 21st century. This includes integrating technology into the curriculum, promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, and encouraging the development of essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and critical thinking.
"Our education system must be one that equips every child with the skills, knowledge, and character needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world," Nabbanja stated. "This means fostering not only academic excellence but also creativity, critical thinking, and emotional resilience. We must nurture well-rounded individuals who are ready to contribute positively to society."
She also stressed the need for an inclusive curriculum that reflects the diversity of Ugandan society.
"Our education must embrace the rich cultural tapestry of our nation, ensuring that every child sees themselves reflected in their studies. This inclusivity is fundamental in building a cohesive, united society," Nabbanja added.
The Premier's address comes at a crucial time when Uganda is seeking to modernize its education sector to better prepare its youth for the challenges and opportunities of a globalized world.
