On Monday afternoon, the Late Dr. Paul Ssemogerere was laid to rest at Nattale village. Nkumba in Busiro.
Although the state was set to accord the late a 3 gun salute, professor Germina Namatovu Ssemogerere, the wide to the veteran politician requested that they refrain from firing a gun salute during her husband's burial.
Explaining this to the mourners, she said that while still living, her late husband never wanted to be associated with guns and therefore they couldn't come in play at is burial.
In addition to the gun salute refrain, the latest family had also earlier declined to the government's request to accord the late a state funeral because the deceased reaped a low life and desired a simple send off.
Aged 90, Ssemogerere passed on last Week on Friday morning at his home in Rubaga Division, Kampala.
He served as the opposition Democratic Party (DP) President for 25 years. He is also a 2 times Uganda presidential candiate, and a major figure in Ugandan politics up until his retirement in 2005!
