The raising debate of the pros and cons of Bubble gum music keeps worrying musicians as some tend to think of it as an insult to the creatives industry.
For a few musicians, being called Bubble gum music artistes is an insult and they do not want to hear of it at all. One of the people that has always been termed as such is Crystal Panda and every opportunity he gets, he uses it to argue against his music being called Bubble Gum music.
Well, even musician Reign Omusoyisoyi does not want to hear his music being called Bubble gum music. According to him, he has never, not even once released Bubble Gum music in his entire music career. Listing all his songs, he asked the presenters at Galaxy TV whether any of them qualified to be termed as Bubble Gum music.
Reign, who was referring to it as ‘chewing gum' briefed everyone on the value of his music, stating that none of it could even be discredited.
“When you look at my songs dubbed Nyoko, mupambanyi, Musenze, Long time and Locomote, do you feel like these songs are all bubble gum music? With the way Shakira Shakira was shaking nyash in Locomote, does it still sound like Bubble gum music to you?” he asked.
He further stated that artistes deserve to be respected because they take a lot of time composing their music, taking it to studio, working with producers. He stated that if people don’t pick the message from the songs then they should at least listen to the beats from the producers because there is no bubble gum beat.
“We take a lot of time in studio, recording these songs. Even the song making process is not an easy forte then when we make music you call it Ball Gum. Well, if you fail to listen to the message on the song, listen to the beat because beats are constructed and no Producer will make a bubble gum beat.” Said Reign
He took the opportunity to also promote his new song dubbed Musenze, saying it is a great song and it is very educative.
“Have you listened to my new song dubbed Musenze, it is a very educative, entertaining and nice song. You should check it out.” He stated.
When asked whether he really knows what Bubble Gum music is, Reign declined, saying he is not the one that even brought up the term but rather his interviewers.
“You are the ones that have said that word. When we go to studio, we come out with reggae music only for you to tell us it is bubble gum music.” Reign stated.
