Ruth Kalibala, a radio presenter at Ddembe FM has finally been relieved of her hard role of over twenty years with the biggest condom supplier in Uganda, Life Guard Condoms.
It was revealed yesterday but indirectly by the company that re-launched condoms on the market following last year's incident.
The new condoms as launched by the company did not have the face of Ruth Kalibala who used to appear with another gentleman but instead had a fresh modern 21st century looking couple.
I say 21st century because when you take a look at Ruth's hairstyle on the old packs, you will realise that it is quite outdated compared to today's trends.
During an interview in 2017, the ever jolly radio presenter revealed that she was unhappy with the condom company because she was no longer receiving any penny from it yet her face was still appearing on their product. So she threatened to sue the condom maker in the following year.
Ruth while intending to sue also stressed on the point of being very young at the time Life Guard approached her. The company approached her in the late 90s through a friend who first took her to a good salon for a fancy hairstyle before heading to an anonymous photo shoot in town whose motive was to find a face for the condoms.
Why did Lifeguard condom company launch its condoms afresh?
In 2019, The Ugandan National Drug Authority tested many samples of the Lifeguard condoms only to discover that many had defects such as having holes, bursting while in use and other happenings that a normal condom is supposed to prevent.
Hence recalling over 1 million condoms that were said to have been produced with defects, bringing production and distribution to a screeching halt.
