The MTV MAMA awards were supposed to happen in February this year in the pearl of Africa.
However, the organizers at MTV decided to cancel them because of the poor image of Uganda that was portrayed to the world.
This is due to political anger, police brutality and so many other things.
Many believe that the awards might not even take place in Uganda anymore as a different country with a better image is being considered.
Social media such as twiiter and Facebook are one of the place where these images of the horrific Uganda were portrayed.
Certain big musicians such as DJ Khalid had confirmed they would be in Uganda but received a lot of backlash from Ugandans which made him change his mind.
This award show was expected to bring in plenty of money and expose some beautiful aspect of uganda to the world.
Furthermore, the tourism and entertainment sector were to be the biggest beneficiaries of this award show happening.
The hate, anger and frustration in many Ugandans is valid but is this costing us too?
The question we need to ask ourselves as Ugandans, are we wrongly using social media to destroy our own country?
