* Taiwan accuses China of trying to carry out economic coercion.
* Taiwan says that China wants to reinstate a leadership that would favour the Beijing administration.
* Beijing denies all accusations from Taiwan which it views as a separist republic.
The Democratic Progressive Party has accused China of trying to interfere in the vote through either military means or co- opting with Taiwanese politicians inorder to ensure an outcome favourable to Beijing.These accusations accost China for involving in an economic sabotage and interfering with in election following Beijing plan to terminate tarriff cuts on certain chemical imports from the island which China argued that Taipei had violated a trade agreement. The move comes just as the Taiwanese presidential and parliamentary elections are upfront which are scheduled for January 13 amid increased tensions with China which considers Taiwan as it's territory.
The Taiwanese government has continuously asserted that China engages in election sabotage particularly to favour the Beijing politicians. The China Finance Ministry went ahead to suspend tariff cuts for 12 Taiwanese products with effect from Jan1 with claims that Taiwan had violated a 2010 trade deal.However the Taiwan's Office of Trade Negotiations in a statement after a weekly cabinet said that China was carrying out economic coercion and that China should stop its one sided political manipulation." Chinese investigation process has been unfair, opaque and not in line with international norms" it said
Taiwan's China- policy making mainland affairs council said that China had many different ways to interfere in the elections and the trade probe was one of them. However China's Taiwan Affairs Office laid the blame on Taiwan saying the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's stubborn adherence to China detests had sowed seeds of discord making China view them as separists.Lai Ching the Vice President of Taiwan echoed that no matter the actions taken by China,its only the Taiwanese who can determine there futre.
