Bayern Leverkusen have been unbeaten this season and the Bundesliga Champions will be hoping to continue their amazing performances against Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final.
This will be Bayern Leverkusen's first European final since 2002 when they finished as runners-up to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. They lost 3-2 to Real Madrid. It will also be Xabi Alonso's first European final as the manager of Bayern Leverkusen.
Atalanta defeated Bayern Leverkusen in both legs of the Europa League round of 16 tie back in 2022. Bayern Leverkusen will also be eager to end that two match losing streak against the Italians by striving for victory in the final.
Xabi Alonso is confident that his team is well prepared for the challenge and will go all in to try and win their second title of a possible treble this season. Alonso's side will also feature in the German cup final against Kaiserslautern on Saturday.
After breaking Bayern Munich's 11 year title monopoly in Germany this season with their 51 match unbeaten run, they got the nickname "Neverlusen". Meaning they never lose.
However, even with this impressive record, Xabi Alonso insists their perspective on the final has not changed.
He said the following about Atalanta;
They have a great coach (Gian Piero Gasperini) and great players like Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere. It's an honour for me to be able to play against such a great team here tomorrow(Wednesday).
Atalanta will also be looking to win the Europa league trophy as it is the only piece of Silverware still in their sights after losing the Coppa Italia to Juventus. They were beaten 1-0 by Juventus, courtesy of an early goal from Dusan Vlahovic in the 4th minute of the game.
Atalanta currently lie fifth in Serie A which has already been won by Inter Milan.
Bayern Leverkusen seem to have no injuries and will go into the match with a fully fit squad.
Marten De Roon may be the only player of Atalanta who is going to miss the Europa league final against Bayern Leverkusen.
