During the swearing in ceremony of cabinet and state ministers today at the Kololo independence grounds, the new minister of Foreign affairs Jeje Odong was seen without his famous mask.
Yes his 3.7 million shilling mask was missing from his face and he instead had a simple black cloth facemask to protect him from the novel Corona virus.
Last week, the minister wore the dazzling mask that caused an uproar on social media. This was during the vetting process of ministers at the Parliament of Uganda where he was seen with the unusual mask.
Some Ugandans on seeing the images from Parliament complained how the minister had wasted taxpayers' money while others said it was his right to protect himself from Corona virus at any cost.
What did Jeje Odong think about the reactions from Ugandans
Odong defended himself by first of all saying that his mask was not worth 3.7 million as portrayed by the media but was instead at a much lower price.
But through a tweet, he confessed that the mask was electronic and beyond the ordinary in a way that it has fans that filter fresh air effortlessly for your comfortable breathing.
He also said that he bought it in late 2020 meaning it was not just bought of recent as many Ugandans thought.
