The fashion industry is constantly evolving and changing, with new trends, styles, and innovations emerging every season. However, some designers stand out from the crowd with their unique vision, creativity, and influence. Here are some of the top designers to watch out for in 2024.
Pharrell Williams
Pharrell Williams is no stranger to the fashion world, having collaborated with brands such as Adidas, Chanel, and Moncler in the past. However, his latest venture is arguably his most ambitious and impressive one yet: becoming the creative director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear line. The hip-hop star made his debut for the French luxury house in the summer of 2023, taking over the entire Pont Neuf bridge in Paris and staging a spectacular show that featured a live performance by Jay-Z. His second collection, presented in January 2024, was inspired by the American Western movies, reimagining the iconography of cowboys and infusing them with modern day chic. Pharrell’s collections for Louis Vuitton are bold, colorful, and eclectic, blending streetwear, sportswear, and tailoring with the brand’s heritage emblems and craftsmanship. Pharrell is not only a talented musician, but also a visionary designer who is bringing a fresh and youthful energy to one of the most prestigious fashion houses in the world.
Seán McGirr is the new creative director of Alexander McQueen, succeeding Sarah Burton, who stepped down after 10 years at the helm of the iconic British fashion house. McGirr, who is of Irish descent, was previously the head of design at Balenciaga, working closely with Demna Gvasalia. He is known for his edgy and experimental approach to fashion, combining cutting-edge technology, unconventional materials, and sculptural silhouettes. His first collection for Alexander McQueen, shown in London in February 2024, was a tribute to the late founder of the brand, Lee Alexander McQueen, who died in 2010. McGirr revisited some of McQueen’s most iconic designs, such as the “bumster” trousers, the “armadillo” shoes, and the “plato’s atlantis” prints, and reinterpreted them with his own modern twist. McGirr’s collection was a stunning homage to McQueen’s legacy, as well as a bold statement of his own vision for the future of the brand.
Simon Porte is the founder and designer of Jacquemus, one of the most successful and popular French labels of the past decade. Porte started his brand in 2009, when he was only 19 years old, and quickly gained recognition for his playful and minimalist aesthetic, inspired by his childhood in the south of France. His collections are full of bright colors, whimsical shapes, and oversized accessories, such as the famous “Le Chiquito” micro-bag, which became a viral sensation on social media. Porte is also known for his spectacular show locations, such as a lavender field, a wheat field, and a pink runway in the middle of a lake. In 2024, Porte is rumored to join Givenchy as the new creative director, following the departure of Matthew Williams. While nothing has been confirmed yet, many fans and critics are excited to see how Porte will bring his sunny and joyful style to the historic couture house. Porte is one of the most talented and charismatic designers of his generation, and whatever he does next, he is sure to make a splash in the fashion world.
