Yesterday, the Uganda Cranes team kick-started their CHAN tournament with a goalless draw with her neighbours Rwanda. The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is played by players who play their football on the continent.
This year's tournament is hosted by West Africa's giant Cameroon. The match between the cranes and Amavubi stars of Rwanda was played in Douala, Yaunde.
Uganda is in group C with reigning champions Morocco and Togo. Morocco are the current group leaders after winning their opener against Togo, thanks to a penalty by Yahya Jabrone.
The cranes are hoping to qualify to the next round for the first time, given the previous tournament the team never left the group and managed to score only one goal! The match was aired live on Rwanda TV and Kenyan Broadcasting Corporation (KBC1).
This didn't go well with Ugandan supporters back home, who questioned the patriotism of Uganda's media houses including the national television UBC, which was showing a recap of the recently concluded national elections during the match.
The cranes will play their second game of the tournament on 22nd/January/2021 against Togo, who're competing in the tournament for the first time. Hard luck to the boys from us at Nowviba.
