The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has strongly refuted recent reports claiming that they had agreed to join the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), led by Eddy Kenzo.
On Friday, rumors circulated online suggesting that UMA, under the leadership of Cindy Sanyu, had made the decision to join UNMF, causing a wave of excitement among some UNMF members who believed this would complete the federation.
However, singer Ibrahim Mayanja, popularly known as Big Eye Starboss, quickly dismissed the reports, stating that they were entirely false and lacking any truth.
UMA President Cindy Sanyu also took to her social media platforms to clarify the situation and dispel the rumors. In her statement, she urged the public not to be deceived by the reports and emphasized that UMA had not yet joined UNMF.
"While UMA has always had the intention to federate, the terms of the federation are a matter of concern. If the terms are favorable, UMA will consider joining UNMF. But for now, I want to assure everyone that UMA has not become a part of the Uganda National Musicians Federation," Cindy Sanyu clarified.
Sanyu further highlighted that ongoing discussions were taking place within UMA to ensure that all stakeholders in the music industry, including writers, producers, managers, and publishers, were considered in the decision-making process. She emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and stated that a federated body should reflect the entire value chain of the music industry, not just musicians.
"The music industry is vast, and it is crucial to include all our allies, such as writers, producers, managers, and publishers. Federating based on the value chain would be more logical and comprehensive. We are currently in discussions, working towards a positive outcome," Cindy Sanyu added.
UMA's firm denial of the reports clarifies their current position and underlines the ongoing deliberations within the association. As discussions continue, the Ugandan music industry eagerly anticipates the outcome, hoping for a unified and inclusive federation that will promote the interests of all stakeholders involved.
