Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi, a prominent Ugandan cardiologist who had been residing in Australia, has sadly passed away, as confirmed by his wife, Mayimuna Nakayiira Kiyingi.
In a heartfelt announcement on Saturday afternoon, Mrs. Kiyingi expressed her deep sorrow at the loss of her beloved husband. Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi, known for his contributions to medicine and various business ventures, was remembered as not only a husband but also a loving father and a cherished friend. His passing has left an indelible void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Details regarding the cause of Dr. Kiyingi's death were not disclosed in the initial announcement. Mrs. Kiyingi did mention that information about funeral arrangements and memorial services would be communicated in due course.
Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi's journey in the medical field began with his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Makerere University. He subsequently embarked on extensive international studies and completed his specialist cardiology training in Sydney, Australia, at Westmead and Concord Hospitals. Over the years, he became a respected consultant cardiologist and physician, specializing in areas such as preventative cardiology, echocardiography, hypertension, and general medicine.
Dr. Kiyingi gained public attention in the early 2000s for his philanthropic gestures, frequently donating funds to churches and non-governmental organizations in Kampala upon his return from Australia, where he had been practicing medicine.
Together with his wife, the late Robinah Kiyingi, Dr. Kiyingi was associated with Dehezi International, a computer firm and internet service provider in Kampala. The company gained prominence for supplying computers to schools and organizations at subsidized rates and for its role in supporting the development of CBS FM's radio website, allowing Ugandans abroad to listen to the radio online.
Tragically, Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi faced legal controversies, including accusations of involvement in the murder of his wife, Robinah Kiyingi, a Kampala lawyer who was fatally shot at her Buziga home. Dr. Kiyingi was arrested and charged in connection with her murder but was later released on bail and subsequently acquitted.
In 2015, he made headlines once more by announcing his intention to return to Uganda and challenge President Museveni in the 2016 general election, despite facing treason charges. Dr. Kiyingi accused President Museveni of fabricating charges to thwart his political aspirations.
While Dr. Kiyingi's presidential ambitions did not come to fruition, his life and career were marked by both medical achievements and significant controversies. At the time of his passing, he had withdrawn from the public eye, especially on social media, where he had been previously active in voicing his views and opinions.
