    In a significant move ahead of the 2026 general elections, Vice President Rtd Major Jessica Alupo has inaugurated 354 newly appointed assistant Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs).

    The ceremony took place at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi district, marking the completion of a two-week intensive leadership training program for the new recruits.Alupo, accompanied by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, emphasized the crucial role these new officials will play in ensuring effective governance and support for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party's agenda.

    "You are the backbone of our local administration. Your commitment and integrity will be key in fostering development and stability as we approach the 2026 elections," Alupo stated.

    Prime Minister Nabbanja, delivering a keynote address, called on the new assistant RDCs and RCCs to serve with dedication and loyalty. Reflecting on her own experience as an RDC, she said,

    "This role requires you to be exemplary leaders. Your service should reflect the values and aspirations of our party and our country. Always put the people first and work tirelessly to improve their lives."

    The NRM government recently created the position of assistant RDCs and RCCs to enhance administrative efficiency and support existing RDCs and their deputies.

    This strategic move aims to bolster local governance structures and ensure more robust oversight and implementation of government programs.Minister in charge of the Presidency Milly Babalanda also addressed the new recruits, advising them to manage their ambitions prudently.

    "Being overambitious can lead to mistakes and inefficiencies. Focus on your duties and strive to be effective in your roles. Remember, your primary responsibility is to serve the public and uphold the principles of our administration," Babalanda advised.

    The creation of these new positions and the subsequent training of the new appointees underscore the government's commitment to strengthening its administrative capabilities at the grassroots level.

    The training program at Kyankwanzi covered a range of topics, including leadership skills, governance, public administration, and the political ideology of the NRM.One of the newly passed-out assistant RDCs, Grace Kyomugisha, expressed her readiness to take on the challenges ahead.

    "The training has equipped us with the necessary skills and knowledge to serve effectively. I am eager to start working and contribute to the development of my district," she said.

    As the country heads towards the 2026 general elections, the role of these newly appointed officials will be pivotal in ensuring that the NRM's policies and programs are effectively implemented across all districts and cities.

    The inauguration ceremony highlighted the importance of their roles and the expectations placed upon them by the highest echelons of the government.
