We're beating journalists to protect them - IGP Ochola
    • January 8, 2021 • 4 years ago

During a media address, inspector general of police Okoth Martins Ochola (OMO) has made some stinging remarks about the ongoing brutality by the police on both civilians and journalists.

His address was however directed to journalists, whom he said are the ones against the police but not the other way round. Ochola was quoted saying,

"We've been beating journalists to restrain them from going where there's danger. Police beat journalists to help them for their safety. When a police officer tells you to stop, you must stop for your own safety. I won't apologise for police actions."

These words didn't sit well with journalists who immediately went to their social media and expressed their anger. One Mordecai Muliisa, an NBS journalist posted on his Facebook, "I'm so disappointed in you????"

The IGP also warned people planning to cause chaos on 14th,  saying that they should not dare.

"I would like to assure the whole country that whoever caused trouble will regret why his or her mother gave birth to him or her." He said.
