Famous Blu 3 vocalists, Lillian Mbabazi and Cindy Sanyu, have expressed their reluctance to allow their children to enter the current music industry.
The singers recently participated in an exclusive interview on Capital FM to promote their upcoming Legends Of Sound Blu 3 Reunion concert, scheduled to be held on June 22nd at the Kampala Sheraton Gardens.
During the interview, the singers were asked about the possibility of their children following in their footsteps and pursuing a career in music. Lillian Mbabazi mentioned that her daughter possesses a remarkable voice, but she would prefer her not to venture into the current music industry.
Lillian, known for her hit song "Vitamin," stated that she would only support her daughter if she chose to pursue gospel music, as she believes the current secular music industry is more challenging and intense than it was in their time.
She expressed concerns about her daughter performing songs like "Enkudi" or "Hozaambee."
"My daughter has an amazing voice but I don’t want her to join this music industry. It’s very scary and crazier than our time. Imagine her singing Enkudi or Hozaambee. If she wants to sing, I would encourage her to sing for Jesus," she said.
Cindy, another member of Blu 3, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the quality of music has declined and the industry is no longer as safe as it used to be.
She also mentioned that she would encourage her daughter to pursue gospel music instead. The singers assured fans of an unforgettable experience at the upcoming concert.
They also admitted that they had almost forgotten some of the lyrics to their songs due to their time apart. Cindy had to step in to cover the songs that the group performed during her absence with Mya.
However, they have rehearsed thoroughly and are eagerly anticipating delivering an electrifying performance on the day of the concert.
Meanwhile, Cindy and Mbabazi are not the first Ugandan singers who think their kids should not embrace doing music.
In August 2023, Singer Maureen Nantume said that she actively prevented her children from joining the music industry.
The singer said that all her offspring including the eldest, who is 23, Nantume says, are not allowed to be musicians.
Nantume stresses that she stopped her daughter because she envisioned that she wouldn’t manage the industry as it only needs tough and very focused individuals to join.
