"THE MAMAs ARE HAPPENING WETHER YOU CALL JOE BIDEN AND TRUMP. THE MAMAs ARE COMING TO THE PEARL. #ChewOnThat #ProudlyUgandan." This was a tweet by Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) president and Mpaka records CEO Ykee Benda on Friday 29th/January/2021.
Amidst the current situation, Ugandans have constantly called out artists to use their voices to talk about the injustices going on in the country but many have "sided with the oppressors" and others gone mute. The MAMAs have been having a blockage from campaigns run onliy showcasing the instability in the country.
So when Benda tweeted that, of course he was castigated by angry twitter users. Fast forward, a few hours ago, the MAMAs through their Twitter account, got postponed to a date yet to be announced. Guess who was among the first people to jubilate????, MR, BOY SO TENDER!!!
"I can't thank you enough for postponing these awards.???????????????????????? I am sorry I love our music industry so much. So I couldn't hold back the excitement. And on that note, I will be handing over to the next president soon." Tweeted Ykee Benda.
Now, you're probably as confused as me and I don't blame you for that. For someone who was confidently affirming the awards happening, to immediately seem so happy they've been postponed????, indeed 'kiri Uganda mama Nnyabo!'
This tweet was followed by yet another one that raised some people's eyebrows. The one that hints about his RESIGNATION from UMA presidency. "I will be stepping down as President of UMA as I will communicate through my PR. After 3 months of deep thought and advise from the people I trust. They need someone else."
Should we say the 'Kireka boy' is feeling the heat? Is he under threats? Or he was not the right person for the job? Then also, what has he and the committee really done for the music industry? Yes, all those questions can be best answered by the "Farmer" hit maker himself.
Till next time, keep locked in on Nowviba.
