There has been a lot of public outcry because of the police involvement in adultery cases in Uganda. As of today, that law has been amended and the police is no longer allowed to get involved in adultery cases.
Police spokes person Fred Enanga came out during a briefing on the 13th of February and announced that adultery is no longer a criminal case to be handled by police. He went ahead to say that Ugandans should never be harrased when caught in adultery.
"I want to inform the public that we keep getting cases of adultery being reported as criminal cases. We want to come out to clearly inform the public that adultery is not reportable to the Police." He said.
This comes after the incident where Télévision personality MC Casmir was caught with hanging trousers chewing a married woman and handcuffed by police on request of the Lady's husband. It is said that the police officer who arrested Casmir has been identified as IP Julius Ogwang and he arrested them and even went ahead to interrogate them which was seen as a violation of privacy.
Enanga went ahead to confirm that Adultery was a civil matter which did not concern the police. He said police was only allowed to get involved in a civil matter when it turned life threatening and involves damage of property.
