When musician Beenie Gunter found himself in the hands of the authorities in Dubai, he was a little less worried about things like his release because he believed he had various friends in the Ugandan Music Industry who would be willing to lend him a hand any time and any day in whatever situation he was going through. One of the people he had high Hope’s in was none other than UNMF leader Eddy Kenzo.
According to Beenie Gunter however, all these hopes were squashed the day he was abandoned by Kenzo after facing arrest when he was caught up in the middle of a fight that happened between the events promoters for the show that he was supposed to perform at when he flew out of Uganda.
Taking you back shortly, it has to be recalled that Beenie Gunter was arrested in January early this year in Dubai when he got involved in a fight amongst events promoters.
According to Beenie Gunter, he told authorities that he was only trying to separate the people that were fighting each other and CCTV footage later proved that he only came in to break up the fight but yet to his shock, he was still locked up in three different jails, both in Dubai and in Abu Dhabi.
He narrates that he was later released on bail and paraded before courts of law for participating in the fight rather than calling the police when the fight occurred.
The good news is that after a while of being stuck in a foreign country alone, Beenie Gunter was able to return home to his family only recently. Upon his return, Gunter narrated last weekend how he begged his friends, including the leadership of the Uganda National Musicians Federation but got no help at all.
Gunter says during this entire problematic issue, he reached out to his Ugandan friends but they were not willing to help him. He recalls connecting with Eddy Kenzo specifically via WhatsApp and calls, asking him for help out of the nasty situation but Kenzo told him he was too broke to assist him in any way.
“When I was released from jail to start going to court from home, I was able to reach out to Kenzo because I thought he was my friend, but it seems I was wrong. I spoke to him several times on WhatsApp but in the end, he told me that he did not have money to assist me.” Said Gunter.
You should recall that after Gunter's arrest was made public in Uganda, Kenzo issued a statement saying that he had contacted the Ugandan Ambassador in the UAE to help secure Gunter's release and therefore Gunter would be helped as soon as immediately.
According to Gunter however, he was only helped by a few friends and fellow artists including Crystal Panda, Bobi Wine, Abryanz and Judith Heard.
