Musician A Pass yesterday came out to state that the reason as to why Ugandan music has failed to compete with International music or even go global is simply because there is no gate keeping in the Ugandan music industry.
According to A Pass, every person that comes out and produces a song no matter how bizarre it is given attention and even invited to Television. According to him, it was so hard to be invited to TV back then and you surely had to be good enough for your song to even reach National Television.
“We need a bit of gate keeping in the Ugandan music industry, too much stupid music out here. Anything funny and stupid is now a song. What is the standard ! Back then you had to have something good to be on radio or tv but nowadays all you need is to be viral & boom. #Olemwa,” he wrote on his X
He stated that the Ugandan music industry is facing shame because of these wild songs in circulation and this will make it hard for Uganda to compete with the rest of the World.
“We need more good music playing on Radio, Tv and clubs naye Tuswala. How can Ugandan music compete on the world stage with this kind of music ! #TellMe” he wrote.
He further stated that it is okay for the internet to collect all sorts of garbage but National Television should do a better job when choosing songs to play and promote.
“I am not here talking about what you listen to on the internet. I have been clear in my submission. Some of you need to learn to read. The internet can have as much garbage as it wants but our traditional media should have standards naye Tuswala,” he wrote.
In response to this, Lil Pazo has come out to inform A Pass that the songs he is terming as garbage, such as his own hit dubbed Enkudi are now international hits and they are trending outside of Uganda. He stated that A Pass should not say that the quality of music currently released in the Ugandan music industry can not compete on the World stage when his song is a hit in Countries like Kenya, Rwanda and South Sudan.
“Enkudi is now trending in Kenya, in Rwanda and even up here in South Sudan. It is currently one of the most trending songs among songs that have been released here in Uganda in these past few months.” He stated
According to Lil Pazo, he has even been invited to perform in London for just one song, Enkudi so how then can A Pass say this music can not compete on an International level?
“Am even going to London. The people of London have told me am trending there and they want to see me perform Enkudi. A Pass should relax and let us work.” He stated
