The Uganda Sports fraternity was earlier today greeted with yet another shocking revelation, from the man who has recently put Uganda's Netball on the international map.

The She Cranes' coach Fred Mugerwa while giving his speech during the welcoming ceremony held at Kampala Serena Hotel informed the audience that since he signed his contract two years ago, he had never been paid!

"I have never received a cent from the netball federation save for the Shs500,000 I got from Namibia. The person who appointed me did that because I did the interview and I proved to them that I was the best person to handle the team.Within two weeks, we went to Namibia in 2021 and performed very well." Said a rather disappointed Fred Mugerwa.

The She Cranes returned from South Africa having got eliminated from the ongoing Netball worldcup. However, they returned as Africa's number one, having beaten hosts South Africa 49-47 to claim the number one spot on the continent and taking 5th spot in the whole world.

Amidst the presence of the Minister of Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, Coach Mugerwa hinted on the unlikeliness of him renewing his contract, citing the constant negative critism hailed towards him both from social media and within the sports fraternity.

"To me I think, enough is enough, I may not renew my contract. It is on a bitter note because I cannot be abused and not paid. If was being paid, I would say it's bacuase I am being paid but I am a volunteer. Everytime I go on social media, it is blames and abuses. I have a family, grandchildren and some of these people are people that I trained; the so-called coaches" Coach Mugerwa said.

Mugerwa's story is not a new one on Uganda's Sports scene, where many athletes fail due to poor payment, swindling of funds, under facilitation among others.
