Cindy Sanyu is undoubtedly one of the most sought after musicians in the music industry. Not only does she have a wonderful stage performance and some of the best songs to vibe to but she also has a very huge and dedicated fan base that loves her like crazy.
When it comes to performing, Cindy Sanyu takes her performances very seriously and professionally hence she never foes a sloppy job while on the stage. Cindy however is displeased by the tricks that are played by Ugandan promoters, especially in this Ramadhan season, trying to trick musicians with it.
The singer says that promoters are bow trying to use the Ramadhan period to book musicians to perform for very small money! According to Cindy, she recently turned down promoters who used the guise of the fasting period to pay peanuts to artistes they are trying to book.
Cindy further stated that she asked the said promoters to postpone their events and wait for the right time if they couldn't meet her financial demands, claiming Ugandans are broke because it's the fasting period. According to Cindy, she tells off such promoters, saying they could opt for postponing their events to a more favorable time since the concerts are not a matter of life and death hence they can be moved to a better time when people have money.
"So there's this trick that promoters have when they call you and want to pay you peanuts. They tell you it's not a good season... people are fasting... and Ugandans don't have money, so I'm like let's wait until the season is right and I can get paid. It's not a do or die situation. I can't perform for peanuts just because it's fasting period ," she said in a video shared on her social media platforms.
This is not the first time an artiste comes out and calls out promoters for their oppression while giving excuses here and there. It has been happening in the music industry quite a lot that it is getting old fashioned for a few musicians who refuse to tolerate such insolence. Well, according to Cindy, she believes artists should be empowered to negotiate for their fair price share from promoters if they are asked to perform.
Cindy believes that it is not a promoter that should dictate the price or amount for an artiste but the artiste themselves because this is their hard work, time and dedication towards the industry. What are your views on this.
