Humphrey's burial was attended by a number of Ugandan musicians namely Bebe Cool, Carol Natongo, Fik Gaza, Nina Roz but Clever J was no where to be seen.

Faded singer Clever J, real name Gerald Muwonge has come public to reveal why he was absent at send off ceremony of his cousin brother, Humphrey Mayanja.

It should be noted Humphrey Mayanja, the elder brother of Jose Chameleone, Pallaso, and Weasel passed away on Saturday March 30 after a brave battle with cancer.

Humphrey had been fighting cancer for some time, starting last year while he was living in the USA.

As his condition worsened, he was brought back to Uganda, where he received the loving care of his family and friends in his final days.

The news of Humphrey Mayanja’s passing has led to an outpouring of condolences from fans.

He was laid to rest to rest on Wednesday, April 3 at his ancestral home in Kalangaala, Mityana district.

The burial was attended by a multitude of celebrities and people from different walks of life. The notable ones include Bebe Cool, Nina Roz , King Saha, Fik Gaza, Carol Natongo and many others.

Surprisingly, Clever J was not seen anywhere as the burial ceremony was going on.

While addressing his absentia, he said that Mzee Gerald Mayanja told him to stay away from his family. Besides, they also didn’t attend the burial of his mother.

Therefore, there was no way he was going to get in the mix up and end up probably being embarrassed.

He even released a song with a message to his child citing irreconcilable family differences. In the song, he implored his child to at least try and mend the broken relationship.

“I didn’t attend the burial because Mzee Mayanja told me to stay away from his family. There is no way I would then go to bury. Besides, why didn’t they also come to bury my mother when she died,” the singer said while speaking to Sanyuka Tv.

It has to be recalled bthat the Clever J grew up in the homestead of the Mayanjas. Jose Chameleone’s baby mama Dorotia hired him to clean her office.

According to Clever J, Dorotia, who was paying him about Shs50k-60k per month to clean her office, would later ask him to do more work at home and he ended up becoming a househelp.

At the time, Chameleone and Dorotia were staying in Muyenya, a leafy Kampala suburb.

He said there was no fixed salary; payment varied from month to month at Dorotia’s discretion.

However, Chameleone and Clever J had grown up together in Kawempe. Chameleone’s father is J’s uncle, so J spent part of his childhood at Gerald Mayanja’s home.

However, along the way, Clever J found relative success as a singer.

Later on, Clever’s career collapsed beyond return. He would then go ahead to make several allegations saying that he was bewitched by Dr Jose Chameleone.

This is something that didn’t please the Mayanjas. The bond was slowly restored but once trust is broken, it’s hard to repair it and the singer currently doesn’t see eye to eye with them.
