350 million shillings has been allocated under the Annual Budget Estimates for the Financial year 2023/2024 - for which, its proposed to cater for bedding, clothing and footwear at State House.
The same amount was budgeted for in the previous financial year.
In a special budget planning session in Parliament on Thursday Afternoon, Opposition legislators downplayed the move to allocate such sums of money the the presidential residence.
Led by the Shadow Minister Finance Mr Muwanga Kivumbi and Kira Municipality legislator, Mr Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda who presented the Minority Report together, the legislators had contrasting opinions on the Majority Report that was presented on the Floor by the Budget Committee Chairperson Mr Patrick Isiagi Opolot (Kachumbala County) on the Floor of the House earlier today.
“There is Shs350 million to buy clothes. The same amount was provided last year. This means, we are spending on average Shs1 million on President’s clothes everyday,” Mr Ssemujju said while referring to the Minority Report.
In the proposed budget for the Financial Year 2023/24, an amount of Shs239 billion has been provided for State House. The legislators proposed the reduction of the State House Budget by Shs82 billion.
As information about the matter went public through various Parliamentary digital platforms, Ugandans on social media kept sharing views on how their President and his family consume that much on a daily just to look and dress nice.
