Unlike anything that we have ever seen before, there is a huge traffic jam at the Uganda-Kenya border on the Malaba side.
The traffic jam at first was natural and it was stretching a few kilometers with trucks still moving into Uganda at a steady pace. This is because the truck drivers would leave their samples for Covid 19 testing and be informed about their results when they are already moving on their respective journeys.
But since President Museveni of Uganda gave the directive of the drivers having to wait for their results after testing, all has not been the same. The trucks have been piling up one by one at the border because of delays in testing that were caused by failed equipment at the border on the Ugandan side.
On Sunday, the traffic became unnatural as the truck drivers decided not to move at all for any further tests to be carried on them. The drivers held a no move strike that saw trucks lining up on the road to an estimated distance of 50 kilometres.
The strike was aiming to show the dissatisfaction with how the drivers were being treated before entering Uganda, they say the sanitation which is poor has affected them, some of them have complained of severe hunger because their cash got used up and others have decried the stigmatization they are currently facing by the people at the border town of Uganda.
So 50 kilometers of fully packed cargo trucks, that's a whole lot of money parked on one road. Our value estimations are putting the traffic at many millions of dollars ????????, making it the most expensive traffic jam to ever be seen in the East African region this year.
